Robert W Mackay

Writer

Welcome to my website.

I am a writer living in Surrey, BC, down close to White Rock and the US border, south of Vancouver. I was raised in Surrey and went to high school here, but between then and now, many other vistas beckoned.

If you look at my bio you will see more detail.

Now for the writer part.

Novel Background

'Soldier of the Horse' by Robert W Mackay

My father had served in the First World War, like so many of his generation, but somewhat uniquely in that he was in the cavalry — Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians), to be specific.

Dad was like many veterans, in that he didn't talk about the war very much, although he did recount a few of his escapades, focusing mainly on the scrapes that kept him from being promoted but did keep him sane.

Soldier of the Horse — March 2011

I had long wanted to preserve some sense of his experiences, as well as tell a story about a little-known facet of Canadian history; the result is my first novel, Soldier of the Horse, available from TouchWood Editions.
